Chiefs Playoff Win - The Take, Part Three

Chiefs fans watching the playoff game
from KC's Power & Light District

The adventure continues! Here's Part One if you want to start at the beginning, Part Two is here. Continuing the wonderfully expansive take, in no particular order.

Final score: 30-0.

14-0. Kansas City has gone from two years ago seriously approaching 50 team-years without a playoff series for the Royals or a playoff win for the Chiefs, to being at zero team-years today! How great this is. At my webzine I've got a page with this, it is here.

Two years ago, it was Chiefs last playoff win: 1993 (season), Royals last playoff appearance: 1985. KC was at the top of the list as the most destitute sports city of them all, by far. Next week I'll be changing it all up, now with Kansas City at the bottom of the list! Now: Chiefs (2015), Royals (2015)!

Being at the bottom of this list is a beautiful, beautiful thing.

15-0. Is it possible we could have some kind of NFL Network episode on the greatness of the Chiefs and their play in some way, somehow, some time soon? Seems like every time there's a historical thing, it's about the Packers or Steelers or 49ers or Cowboys. Never is there a thing about the Chiefs. I understand why, I do understand. But it's about time the Chiefs have some epic winning thing happen and it is prominently showcased somehow on network television.

Funny, this Friday at 8:00 eastern time the NFL Network is showing Super Bowl I, in it entirety, completely assembled with NFL Films footage because somehow the original video was lost or destroyed in some way. Yeah, that was in 1967, a time people taped other stuff over previously used video because it was expensive or something.

Yes, the Chiefs lost that game, but hey. They were there.

16-0. I will tell you I do believe there is a profound spiritual dynamic to everything that happens. Everything to everyone all the time. No, I don't believe for a second that God favors one team or another, and I do not believe wearing the same stinky socks during a long winning streak makes a lick of difference. I do believe the way people behave has a tremendous impact on the complex tapestry that is our lives -- God does care about that deeply. This principle sounds quite elementary, but I look at what happened in Cincinnati, for example, in that game between the Bengals and Steelers and see the spiritual and its effects all over the place.

I'm not even saying it had some kind of unusual impact on who won or who lost, who knows. But what we all saw in that game were players from both teams getting particularly belligerent, and it appeared to affect the Bengals the most. They actually had the game won, when their unnecessarily violent aggressiveness literally cost them the game. One linebacker plowed his helmet into the Steelers' best receiver at a very inopportune time, and the Bengals were penalized contributing to the game-winning field goal.

The Bengals were so consumed with anger and vengeance it truly affected their game. I'm not even saying the Steelers were blameless -- there was actually a fine case for their evasion of blameworthy consequences of their own -- but the Steelers seem to have some kind of charm. Again, the spiritual is real, and it is meaningful.

I've written before about how much I feel it has affected the Chiefs, and by all means, I don't presume to know everything about how or why things happen supernaturally. I'm not making any claim to anyone, Chiefs or otherwise, being more or less pious than anyone else. For me I do know I can pray and be charitable as I'm led by God in the place He has me. That's a good thing.

I have to add, however, that I do see the Chiefs being committed to family, to excellence, to fine achievement as a team, supportive of everyone and dedicated to the mission, which isn't even all football. I'm not saying other teams and their players don't do these kinds of things themselves, don't misunderstand me.

I am saying that this year the Kansas City Chiefs have been an inspiration, and that is something that should be humbly appreciated.

17-0. One of the major factors related to the inspirational is the guy everyone knows is the man, the man this year anyway -- but even a man for the ages.

Eric Berry.

So much can be said, already has been said, but I'm just going to plug in this video here. Linked at Arrowhead Pride, it says everything. Enjoy.
